Barry Goldwater Blues

1.  Hang me from the limb of the John Birch Society

Hoist me to the top of the pole.

Nail me to the side of the right-wing podium

Bury me in my fall-out shelter hole,

Because I'm destined to shout the news,

I've got those (repeated fast chords on piano)

Barry Goldwater Blues.

2. I don't care a bit for a rich Rock-a-fella,

And I say Nix on Dick!

Romney's rather dull as a dark horse candidate,

I'm Barry's girl through thin and through thick,

Because I'm destined to  shout the news,

I've got those ---------------! Barry Goldwater Blues!

 3. Barry and I were just made for each other

He's got brains and I've got...well...

I don't know a lot about bombs and diplomacy

I'm Barry's girl through Heav'n or through Hell

Because I'm destined to shout the news,

I've got those------------!  Barry Goldwater Blues!

4. (repeat first verse with tag:)

I've got those,

Barry Goldwater, Barry Goldwater, Barry Goldwater, Barry Goldwater Blu-oo-es!

(spoken)  Oh, Barry!

A publicity photo from 1964 of Jan and on the right her button.

Jan writes “In the Valley News I was identified as being nineteen because I was wearing a "If I were 21 I’d vote for BARRY" button which was very popular among matrons of the time.   I looked young enough at 25 or so for people to take the button seriously.  As I had no idea at that time which way I would vote, I thought it was fun to wear.  As you probably know, the newspapers of that time would make up an age if they didn't know it.  I guess they used the button to base their guess on.  They didn't give Goldwater's age!” (55 J )

Thanks Jan for the info and the modern recording playing in the background of “The Barry Goldwater Blues.”   Even at high speed this will take a little time to load. If it does not play try this LINK
